Best for

Young professionals and creatives

Stuttgart-West is where many young professionals and creatives end up after they have been in the city long enough to form an opinion. The district has a more relaxed, neighbourhood feel than Mitte, with a strong café culture along Hegelstraße and Senefelderstraße, and enough bars and restaurants that you do not need to head into the centre every evening.

The vibe is trendy without being pretentious. Tree-lined residential streets mix older Altbau apartments with newer builds, and the proximity to Killesbergpark gives you one of the city’s best green spaces within walking distance. The Markthalle area at the edge of the district is a reliable food and grocery anchor.

Transport is solid. U1, U2, and U9 serve the area, and S-Bahn connections from Feuersee make commuting to the suburbs or surrounding business parks straightforward. If your office is in the city centre or near Vaihingen (where many tech companies are based), the commute is manageable.

Rent is more approachable than Mitte. A 1-bedroom around €1,200 is a reasonable starting point, and you tend to get slightly more space for your money. Two-bedroom flats exist in better supply here than in the absolute centre.

The main pros: character, green space access, a genuine neighbourhood feel, and slightly better value than Mitte. The main cons: parking is still tight, and the most popular stretches can feel crowded on weekend evenings. For expats who want a social neighbourhood with personality, Stuttgart-West is one of the best fits in the city.
